Important Upcoming Auction Notice (See Below)

Welcome to our web site!  We encourage you to browse our pages and learn more about us, and by all means visit our store.

Allison B. Goodsell, Rare Books, is a privately-owned antiquarian and second-hand bookstore situated at the Kingston Hill Book Store in historic Kingston, Rhode Island.  I am celebrating my 11th anniversary, this summer, at this location and have been operating a by appointment location in Westerly, Rhode Island, for 28 years.  I am a member of the Massachusetts and Rhode Island Booksellers Association (MARIAB).

The Kingston Hill Book Store is open daily 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM with extended hours in nice weather and by appointment.  The bookstore contains a large selection of antiquarian books in a variety of subject areas with particular concentrations in Rhode Island history, New England history, maritime, gardening, natural history, hunting and fishing, art, cookbooks, literature, poetry and children's books.  There are many other subject areas for which the size of the categories varies with the number of books purchased for the bookstore.

A new category to the bookstore during the past year is a handsome collection of antique prints and maps.  Some of the prints are original works of art by Fritz Eichenberg and C.J.A. Wilson as well as hand-colored botanical plates of fruits, flowers, animals and general natural history topics.  There are children's prints also which include Raggedy Ann, Beatrix Potter, Kate Greenaway and Winnie the Pooh.  Some of the items are framed with fine quality products from Larsen Juhl and Don Mar with acid free and archival mats and mounting materials.  The majority of prints are unframed and matted with archival materials to fit standard size frames.  They are ready to frame or to give as gifts.  For your convenience, there is also a framing and matting service offered at the bookstore.

The bookstore is located on Route 138 near the entrance to the University of Rhode Island.  Kingston is a beautiful historic village in the heart of the town of South Kingston and Washington County and is within a short distance of area beaches and resorts.  Kingston hosts an array of cultural and social activities and is home to the Fayerweather house of local artisans and the South County Art Association with a fine selection from area artists.  The Pettaquamscutt Historical Society is a wonderful source of historical and genealogical information.  The University of Rhode Island also hosts a wide variety of activities ranging from the Master Gardeners Club to International Soccer games.
